The poker tournament can be broadly devised into two categories- single table tournament and multi table tournament.

The single table tournament can be launched only after the registration of the required number of players. Where as the multi table tournament can launched at a fixed starting time. Players start playing with a fixed number of chips in a multi table tournament and compete to get other player’s chip. In this way the players are eliminated one by one and at last the winner is decided. Now let us discuss other types of tournaments that are usually played in different parts of the world.

Let us start with Shootouts; it is a multi table tournament of special type. In a multi table tournament, as the rule of the game players are eliminated and move to other tables to balance the numbers of players. But in shootout table balancing is out of rule; the players plays the game in his original table unless he is eliminated. In this tournament, the winner of the table has to take on other winner of their respective tables. Further this shootout tournament can be divided into double shootout and triple shout tournaments. In the case of double shoot out one has to win two tables to be declared winner and in the case of triple shootout one has to win three table to be the winner.

Satellite is a special kind of poker tournament where the winner is sent to a larger poker tournament. This tournament is less expensive and if you win this tournament you can get an easy entry to a larger tournament directly.

Freeroll is another type of important poker tournament. Under this tournament the players are given free entry and the winner is generally awarded cash prize.

Sit & Go is another type of poker tournament, which is not played at any scheduled time. In this case the game will begin if all the tables are filled up.

Rebuy is another type of poker tournament in which the players will have the opportunity to buy. As a player, if your chips run out you will be out of the tournament.
