Both games differ in many respects. The limit style always limits the downside of losing for a player while in a no limit game a player can lose more than he wants to. With fixed betting size, a player is forced to stop betting more and hence he doesn’t have a chance to lose too much. This suits the new player most. One of the main differences between these two styles also is that in a No limit game a player can protect his hand from being drawn out. This is possible by making bets that are large enough to protect himself. But in a limit game with a pre-fixed limit he can’t protect his hand. Limit games help you in limiting your losses while no limit games help you in building your stacks and taking more winning chances.In a no limit game, the player can always try to build a pot when you have good cards and control it when you are marginally best. But in limit style of poker, you can only try to limit your losses and saving your bets. In no limit game, the best player will have a higher advantage over the weak player as compared to the advantage the best player in a limit game holds over the weakest player. This is because of pre-flop and flop play. No limit is considered a game of implied odds which means reading the hands and minds of other players well. Limit is a game of pot odds which are easier to compute and suit a beginner very well. The Limit form of poker is most common in casinos as compared to no limit style. This again is because of lesser risk being involved in the former. But No Limit is the preferred version in most tournaments. And most poker pros also prefer this variant of the game as it is gives them the scope of reading their fellow players and their games well. It involves more of player psychology than anything else.Many players have written books on both forms of the game but there are more books written on the Limit game. Simply put, it depends on the players liking and fundamentals, if your poker fundamentals are clear and you like the no limit style than that is the style for you but if you are a beginner then Limit game is the one for you.
