Blog » Some Basic Rules For Playing Razz Poker

Razz poker is one of the seven cards stud game variant and is not so known in the casinos and poker houses, however, the popularity of this game is increasing rapidly in the online poker rooms where people are getting inquisitive and are trying out this game. This game can be very profitable if you are thorough with the rules of this game. Some of the important points and rules which will help you to understand the game in a better way are listed below:

Razz poker is very similar to the seven card stud game, however, instead of the highest showing hand, the lowest hand wins the pot.

A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 players can play at a time in a game of razz.

Like the regular seven card stud, each player is dealt seven cards in total out of which 4 cards are dealt face up and the other 3 are face down.

Aces will always be low and the flushes and the straights do not have any significance.

A total of 5 rounds are played and all the bets and raises should be equivalent to the high or the low limit bet size which depends on the round.

The bets and the raises should be equal to the low limit bet size in the first and the second round of betting.

In the last 3 rounds, the bets and the raises must be equal to the size of the high limit bets.

In the 3rd street, 2 faces down cards are dealt to every player and another face up card is dealt after that.

The player who has the highest card is the one who has to bring in first and the bet would be ½ of the low limit bet, however, it depends on the player if he wants to raise the bet to full.

A total of three bets are permitted in a single round of betting.

After the 3rd street, play proceeds in the clockwise direction where the player is dealt one face up card for each of the 4th, 5th and 6th round and a face down card for the 7th round.

In the showdown, the player who has not folded at the end of the last betting round gets the chance of showing the hand and has a good chance of winning the pot.
