Blog » Rules for playing Three Card Poker

Three Card Poker is one of the popular table games. It is an extremely enjoyable game and at the same time easy to play. This article will discuss the basic rules of the game.

The Three Card Poker actually involves two games or modes of play – the Ante and Play and the Pair Plus. In the Ante/Play game, the player plays against the dealer while in the Pair Plus a player bets on whether he will be dealt a pair or better.

The game consists of three betting circles for each player – the first one is the Pair Plus and the other two are known as Ante and Play. In the beginning of the game each player has to make a bet in the Pair Plus circle after which the dealer gives each player a three card hand. The player who sits on the left side of the dealer starts the game and it continues around the table. The game involves a single deck of card.

You must decide either to fold or play after looking at your hand if you have made a bet on Ante. If you wish to continue then you will have to make more bets in the play circle. Finally after all the players have taken their decisions the dealer will show his cards. If the dealer’s hand does not qualify then the remaining players paid for their Ante bets. But if the hand qualifies then it is compared to the players’ hands; if the dealer’s hand is greater then the player loses the bets and if the player’s hand beats the dealer then you win the bets.

There is an Ante bonus given out for particular hands on the Ante bet. A player however does not need to make any additional bets for this. For example if a player gets a straight, or a straight flush, then he gets a bonus. This bonus varies among the different casinos.

In the Pair Plus if a player gets a pair or better then he wins. The wager on the basis of the play table set by the casino. It may differ from one casino to another.

There are also different variations of the game available. For example in the United Kingdom casinos, a bet called ‘prime’ is added and the game is known as the Prime Three Card Poker. The simplicity of the game makes it popular and since the players are not playing against each other camaraderie can be developed.
