How 5 Card Stud Originated

If you study the history of the 5 card stud, you will find the reasons why it is such an interesting and popular game. It’s history dates back to the Middle Ages when 5 card stud was the most liked game. Today people prefer playing games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha Poker but things were different at that point of time. If you go back in time and look into the pages of history, you will find that 5 card stud was considered as a supreme game.

5 card stud originated in the Asian and the European countries but it actually became famous when it crossed the Atlantic and migrated with the people who moved toward west and entered the United States. Initially it became very famous among the gold miners and after a tiring day at the mines, the workers used to enjoy this game together in the evenings. During those days, they used to think that if you happen to be better at this game, you happen to be a wiser man.

When this game started, it used be played with only 20 cards and with just one single round of betting. Each player used to have 5 cards, all hidden and the other players would bet. The options and the combinations were very limited because of the small number of cards. Gradually, people got a little bored of the game and that is when they came up with some innovative ideas and implemented some changes in the game to make it more interesting. (more…)
