In Poi Gow poker, there are ways in which you can lower the house edge. But new players, who don’t know the basics very well, hurt their odds. If you can remember some of the tips given below, you may have more success at the game and also enjoy it a bit more.
Bank whenever you can
Bank whenever you get an opportunity while playing Poi Gow poker. Banks win when the hands are copied, which makes the odds slide 1 to 2% in favor of the bank. This is how the experienced players weigh the odds.
The one drawback to being the bank is that you need a bankroll, for it is the banker’s job to cover wagers of all other players. This is the reason many players stay away from banking. Ask at the casino if players are allowed to share the banking duties, which lower the possible cost of a failed banker’s hand.
When you are banking, bet as much as you can to lower negative expectations, and bet very little when not banking. When banking, bet six to fourteen times the amount you would when not banking. This may result in short term losses but the odds even out considerably in the long run.
In most casinos, amount of the hands a player can bank are limited. The banking duties start with the dealer and moves round the table. When a player opts out of banking, the next player is offered the chance.
Look for a table with a dealer but no players. This will allow you to be the banker with every other hand.
Two card hand
New players have to remember that the 2 card hand is as important as the 5 card hand. Very often, an inexperienced player tries to build up a strong 5 card hand while neglecting the 2 card one. Try to find a good combination so that you have the best odds to win the five card and two card hands both. But do remember the front hand is always less strong than the hand behind.
Avoid a Full House
When arranging your hands in Poi Gow poker, you need to remember some examples:
- Never play a full house as the upper hand, for this will just leave a high card in the forward hand, so the player will most likely push.
- For the behind hand, playing 3 of a kind is much better, and for the forward hand, play 2 of a kind.
- Both these hands have a high likelihood for winning.
