Good and Bad hands

Before you play Texas hold’em or indeed any other form of poker, you should realize at the very outset that there are some hands that are the best while other hands are not worth anything at all. Once you learn to recognize the good and band hands in hold’em, you will not only have improved your card play, but also be on the path to maximizing your chances of winning and thus making money out of this form of gambling.

Two Aces:
Thus, it pays to look at the type of hands one can expect to play when playing Texas hold’em and categorize them as being best and worst. So, if you find that you have been dealt two aces you can be sure that your hand is the best one that any of the other players could hope to have and it is almost certain that you will win the most if you get these two cards than any other combination.

Another great hand that you may be dealt is two kings which though not as strong as the pair of Aces, is good enough in Texas hold’em but does not dominate the game in the same way as two aces can. However, if you get ace and king, you can consider you very lucky that you have been dealt a hand with great strength though your chances of winning will depend on the flop which should work for you rather than against you.

So to summarize when you are playing in the position, it is best to raise with any really high pairs such as K-K, A-K, or A-As. However with A-K, A-Qs, Q-Q, J-J or T-T have a call but don’t rely to heavily on your cards and be prepared to fold to a few re-raises.

After the flop, you could reasonably expect to get a second or third ace or king that will further strengthen your hand and if the ace and king are of similar suit your hand will be further strengthened. Next, you can be dealt a pair of queens which is also a Texas hold’em strong hand, especially when the others have cards that contain nothing higher than jacks, though if the player holds cards higher than the queen, and then such a hand may not prove to be a winner.

Among the hands that are the worst and which you should not consider worth playing you can include an ace accompanied by a low card from another suit, and this hand is often mistakenly thought of being strong by beginners to Texas hold’em who should realize that such cards are ok and will help you win once in a while though it is not a very reliable hand, more so when the other players raises.

Finally, among the worst Texas hold’em hands that you can be dealt are any face and lower cards that are not of the same suit which will in most cases cause you to lose rather than to win and if another player should raise, then it would most advisable for you to fold your hand rather than lose your money needlessly betting further.
