There are some common mistakes players make while playing poker. A few have been listed below.

• Showing of cards: Cards may be shown by you as a tactical act in order to put pressure on opponent players. Otherwise show of your own cards to other players is never a good idea. Keeping your cards on guard makes the game unpredictable and interesting. It helps you bluff the opponents as well.

• Talk: Poker is a game that demands lots of concentration. When you play poker getting distracted may harm your game. It lets you lose the track of the game and then you depend upon luck more than your skill. Chats may lead to ugly exchange of words between the players, especially between those who are neck to neck in the game. It also makes enemies. So stay away from chats as much as possible. Talking also gives a glimpse of your personality which may help others read your next step.

• Emotions: Never get emotional while playing. Winning and losing are both part of the game. One cannot always win or lose. Loss should be graciously accepted and at the same way a win should be humbly recognized. Never show off your pride in winning or your anger in losing. A matured player should always underplay his or her emotions.

• Chips: Chips should not be thrown away into the pot. They should be placed on the table so that the dealer sees them and places them into the pot.

• Limits: A poker player should know his/her limits regarding the money he or she wants to put into the game. Once you start to play poker and then start winning you may get tempted to play beyond your limits since you are winning. But your luck may decide otherwise and you may end up losing badly. Never give into the temptation. Keep your sensible head in place.

• Protecting your cards: You should always make sure your cards don’t get mixed up with other player’s cards. If it does happen your card will be declared as dead. Keep your hands over your cards to protect them.

• Not knowing the bet: When your turn comes you should be aware of what the bet is. You should be aware whether the bet was raised or not. Concentration is the name of the game.

• Wait: Wait till your turn comes in order to bet. Wait till others to your right have made their bet. Betting when its not your turn will only prove harmful to you and advantageous for others.
