One of the reasons that 5 Card Stud Poker is not played so much anymore is because it is such a basic game; however, this also means that a good 5 Card strategy can be just as simple.
In poker, this is one of the few games where a player can see all but one of their opponent’s cards. This means that your 5 Card strategy begins with you paying close attention, and most importantly with you being patient.
Paying attention means watching which players fold and evaluating what they have face-up on the table. What would they have been dealt to make them out? Only by keeping close track and weighing your opponents’ playing styles can you make a decision.
Your 5 Card strategy also involves a great deal of patience. If you can’t assume that you will beat what’s showing up on the table, you need to fold. This is a common problem for those learning this game, who are easily baited into becoming impatient and trying to bluff their way through. You want to be the player who patiently waits for others to make this mistake instead.
