Strategy & Tips » 4 Tips for Five Card Stud Poker

You should know few of the best moves which can be utilized at any point of the game of 5 card stud poker. While playing online at sites offering the game such as Ultimate Bet, Bodog poker or indeed any other site you should not play your cards right away but be patient and follow certain strategic rules which can help you win.

Tip 1: When two raises are already made, only raise if you have a very good hand. In a game with pot limit, if you have already made two raises, at least one player will run out of all his/her chips. You should know that the players will not withdraw after the amount of raises they have made and thus you should have a very strong hand. If you make another raise, make you sure your hand is supreme or else your opponent may make a re-raise and make the game more expensive.

Tip 2: While playing pot limit or no limit, make sure that you are not raising a hand that you could draw later during the game. Make sure that you don’t have to change a single card before making a raise, This is not so important for games with limits since such games have raises which are already fixed and set.

Tip 3: Try and decide if your opponents are strong or weak. When playing against strong opponents, you need to move at a very fast pace not giving them much time to decide what happened. You should make many high raises. You should not pick up many cards because it can cue a hint of desperation in you. If your opponent is weak, try and play with a good hand and bluff when necessary.

Strong players sometimes play poker with only good hands and withdraw if the hand does not seem promising. Weak players can sometimes continue playing with whatever hand they might have just to match the bet placed by their opponents. You can mix and match the strong and weak gaming moves to bluff your opponents by not letting them understand your standard.

Tip 4: If you think that you have a bogus hand while playing no limit you may call but while playing pot limit, you should fold. Take in note that you should not take many chances while playing pot limit. If you want to continue with a hand you think is good but not sure if it would win you something, you should either fold or make a heavy bet. If you make small bets, your opponents will continue playing the game because they would not have much to lose. This way you will work the poker odds to your disadvantage.

Apart from this, be accurate with the rules and practice properly before you start placing heavy bets.
